To carry one of your points forward, I have found the process of finding a mentor, especially a one-time mentor, can be as simple as a phone call to a fellow (albeit more senior) attorney without any presuppositions attached. I have received a great deal of mentoring by what started in my mind as a potential referral to the more experienced, only to realize that not only could I handle this particular case I was in a far better position to do so once I had a bit of insight from the more seasoned members of our profession.
